At Regional Disability & Seniors Expo (RDE), we’re proud to work alongside organisations that make a real difference in their communities. In 2026, one of our valued Toowoomba sponsors, Breakaway Toowoomba Inc., reaches an incredible milestone—40 years of supporting people with disability across the Darling Downs and beyond.
A Legacy Built by Community
Breakaway’s story began in 1986, when local families came together with a shared vision: to create better opportunities, choice, and quality of life for people with disability.
Four decades on, that same purpose continues to guide everything they do.
Today, Breakaway is recognised as one of the region’s leading disability support providers, delivering:
Their growth reflects not just demand, but trust—earned through consistent, person-centred support and deep community connection.
Leading Into the Next Chapter
As Breakaway celebrates this milestone year, the organisation also welcomes a new chapter in leadership, with the appointment of Rodney Watton as Chief Executive Officer.
Rodney steps into the role after serving as Acting CEO and previously as Operations Manager, bringing strong organisational knowledge and a deep commitment to Breakaway’s mission.
Board Chair Shane Kamler highlighted the significance of this appointment:
“Rodney understands our history, our values, and the importance of maintaining a strong person-centred focus while positioning the organisation for the future.”
Rodney’s leadership comes at a time of both reflection and opportunity—honouring the past while continuing to evolve in a changing sector.
Honouring the Past, Building the Future
Breakaway also acknowledges the contribution of outgoing CEO Jennifer Inglis, whose leadership has helped guide the organisation through a period of growth and transformation.
Looking ahead, Rodney is focused on strengthening Breakaway’s impact even further:
“As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we have an opportunity not only to reflect on what has been achieved, but also to build on those foundations.”
His vision centres on maintaining high-quality services, supporting staff, and continuing to be a trusted provider for individuals and families.

40 Years Strong—and Still Growing
The disability sector continues to evolve, but Breakaway’s purpose remains constant:
supporting people to live meaningful, connected, and fulfilling lives.
At RDE, we see firsthand the importance of organisations like Breakaway—those who show up consistently, build trust in their communities, and make a lasting impact over time.
We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with them and look forward to seeing what the next 40 years will bring.
