The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to safely and independently participate in the activities of their daily life such as:

  • showering
  • dressing
  • shopping
  • meal preparation
  • mobility
  • paid employment
  • social activities and hobbies.

Occupational therapists achieve this outcome by working with people in their community to enhance their ability to complete activities that are important to them. This is done by modifying the environment, providing adaptive equipment as well as through rehabilitation and/or retraining.

Where necessary, occupational therapists will link to local services to ensure the clients needs and goals are met.
