Ask anyone managing care at home what really eats up their week, and it's rarely the big-ticket equipment. It's the consumables, continence pads, catheters, wound dressings, thickeners, feeding sets, gloves, the quiet essentials that simply have to arrive, on time, every month. When they don't, everything
else stops.
For regional Queensland households, that reliability can't be taken forgranted. Regional postcodes often mean longer waits, patchy stock and a lot of chasing.
Closing that gap is what HECSA, Health Equipment and Consumable Supplies Australia, set out to do. Founded in 2019 with the stated aim of bringing back old-fashioned customer service to aged care and community providers, the Queensland business now stocks more than 5,000 products across eight
categories: nutrition and feeding, continence, urology, wound care, skin care, airway management, general healthcare, and PPE. It's a registered NDIS provider, dispatching from warehouses at Tingalpa in Brisbane and Garbutt in Townsville.
Three things worth knowing before you order consumables, from
anyone:
Know where they sit in your plan. Consumables generally fall under Core Supports, which gives most participants real flexibility in choosing a supplier. And because HECSA is NDIS registered,
agency-managed plans can use them too.
Fit beats price. The wrong pad or catheter costs far more in skin damage, laundry and dignity than it ever saves at checkout. Ring HECSA's Customer Relations team on 1300 087 786 (8am–4pm weekdays) and describe the situation rather than guessing from a catalogue.
Take the product code with you. If an OT or continence nurse has specified a particular item, quote the manufacturer's code when you change suppliers. HECSA lists products by code, so you can match exactly instead of settling for close enough.
